The top questions over the last month are:

Pro Rata (part month)

You will pay a pro-rata amount for their first month in which their ADSL was activated. For example, if your ADSL service has been activated on the 15th of a month, the pro-rata amount will be calculated as, monthly access fee times days in that calendar month divided by remaining days (from completion date).

Example 1
(a) $30 per month;
(b) 30 days in month;
(c) 15 days remaining = $30 / 30 x 15 = $15

Example 2
(a) $75 per month;
(b) 30 days in month;
(c) 15 days remaining = $75 / 30 x 15 = $37.50

Example 3
(a) $50 per month;
(b) 30 days in month;
(c) 9 days remaining = $50 / 30 x 9 = $14.99

The application process normally, is as follows:

Customer completes an ADSL application. And then after submitting the application, it is explained generally that there are 3 steps that will take place being;

1. Exetel sends your application to Telstra Wholesale;

2. Telstra Wholesale provides Exetel with an estimated appointment date;

3. Telstra Wholesale advises Exetel of the completion date.

The completion date is usually advised to Exetel up to 7 days later by Telstra Wholesale.

This means you should have your ADSL modem and personal computer setup/configured on or before this estimated appointment date. At times, an ADSL service is activated earlier then the estimated appointment date.

As the estimated appointment date is almost always met, usually on or before by Telstra Wholesale, regardless if you first use the service after this date, you will still be charged a pro-rata amount from the completion date.

The reason for this is that Exetel do not know exactly, in real time, of when your ADSL service is activated. This is also how Telstra Wholesale bill Exetel, and so this is how we bill/price our ADSL service accordingly.

An exception is for faults attributed to any ADSL infrastructure which is from the Telstra exchange up to the network boundary point, which is just outside the customer's premises. Any faults attributed to customer premises equipment or setup/configuration is not an ADSL infrastructure service issue.

Billing Dates

The first month is debited on a pro-rata basis and then each subsequent month will be billed on a calendar month.

For example, if your ADSL service is completed on the 15th of the month, the pro-rata of the first month is calculated from the 15th of that month, to the 27th of that month.

Then on the 28th of that month you will be debited for a full months access for the period 28th to the 27th of the next month.

6 Month Contract Term

ADSL1 plans

You are on an initial term of 6 months (except those on selected 12 month ADSL1 plans).

The prime requirement is to have a continuous ADSL service for the 6 months. This also means you must have a full service telephone line (live (connected) telephone service)) for this period.

This means (the 'contract') you must have a continuous ADSL service for at least 6 months, or else a 'cancellation fee' is applicable.

A cancellation fee will be imposed if the following happens within this 6 month initial contract period:

1. Your phone is disconnected (for any reason); or

2. You request to cancel your ADSL service outright.

A few common examples, but not limited to, of a 'cancellation' event:

1. If you request a relocation regardless if you are keeping the same telephone number, this is a cancellation event;

2. If you forget to pay your telephone bill, and your telephone is disconnected/suspended by your telecommunication provider, this is a cancellation event.

Changing Address

ADSL1 plans;

You may request to cancel your existing ADSL service, and apply for a new ADSL service by logging into the Secure ADSL Members Facility located at;

https://www.exetel.com.au/members/index.php

The service number is: your 10 digit telephone number

The password is: It is usually a combination of letters and numbers which has been created randomly from Exetel.

Then click on "Change/Cancel your plan" then "ADSL at new location"(charges are applicable)

Please note, if you are within your 6 month initial contract term you will be debited with a "cancellation fee" This is technically a new ADSL application at the new premises and there is a "new connection fee" that is applicable.

For example, if you are within your 6 month initial term, two fee's are applicable, being;

1. Cancellation fee; and

2. New connection fee

NOTE: A new ADSL initial term will commence at the new premises

If you are outside your 6 month initial term, one fee is applicable, being;

1. New connection fee

NOTE: A new ADSL initial term will commence at the new premises.
