Connecting To Exetel's Telephone Services

Current Telephone Call Services With Telstra

If your current provider of your line and your local telephone calls is Telstra then it is a very simple process to use Exetel as the provider of most call services.

You have two options:

a) Pre-Select Exetel for all calls to mobiles, STD calls and International calls. Pre-Selection is physically done at the local exchange and all 'distance' calls from your pre-selected telephone line will be billed to you by Exetel.

b) Apply for your number to be activated for Over-Ride with Exetel. Over-Ride means that you can select which distance calls you want to be billed to you by Exetel by inserting a four digit number before the telephone number you are calling. This option should be selected if you only wish to use Exetel's wire line services for selected destinations.

1) Calls To Mobiles, Calls To Other Australian Locations and International Destinations

For these call types all you need to do is to fill in the form on this web site (and then printing it and then posting or faxing it to us).

We will then pre-select your numbers which means that Telstra will program the local exchange to which your lines are connected to bill us for all calls of these types. No work is required at your residence or place of business; all work is done by Telstra at your local exchange.

Telstra will continue to bill you for your line and other Telstra services, including local calls, 1300 and 13 calls, and Exetel will bill you for your distance calls and calls to mobiles (This process takes around 10-15 working days).

2) Telephone Line Charge

By applying to pre-select your distance calls to Exetel you are also applying to modify your current line rental with Telstra from either Home Line Plus ($29.95) or HomeLine Budget ($18.50) to Homeline Part at $31.95 per month. These line charges will continue to be billed to you by Telstra and a local call costs 22 cents.

Local Calls With Exetel

You can also use Exetel to make local calls by inserting a four digit 'dial code' before the local number. Exetel charge 15 cents for local calls less than five minutes compared to Telstra's local call rate of 22 cents.

However Telstra's local calls are untimed.

Exetel's local calls are timed which means that if any local call exceeds 5 minutes you will be charged an additional 3.3 cents for each minute over five minutes.

You can find the details of the Telstra HomeLine Part plan on page 24 here:

Current Telephone Services Not With Telstra

If you have already selected another provider to bill you for your line and local calls you may need to 'reverse' that situation by applying to Telstra to rejoin them (something they will be very happy to expedite for you). This is certainly true if your line is billed to you by Optus. However lines with AAPT and iPrimus and other service providers do not seem to have this restriction. However, you must call your current line and local call provider to find out if they have any objection to you using someone else for long distance calls while staying with them for line rental and local calls.

If your current line and local provider does not permit you to have long distance calls with someone else then to switch your line and local calls back to Telstra simply go to this web site and in Section 3 select the second option "only my line rental plus local calls" then do not complete Section 4, go to Section 5:

Once this has been done you are in a position to select another provider. Simply fill in the downloadable application form and send it to us. We will arrange with Telstra for your selected calls to be billed to us and from the time that is activated (usually 10-15 working days).

You need to accept the fact that from the time that you switch back to Telstra until the time you are connected to our services you will be paying Telstra's call rates for calls made in that period.

Your telephone line rental from Telstra will be $31.95 per calendar month.

Billing/Payment Cycles

We will provide you with an itemised invoice for calls made in the previous 30 days on, or around the 20th of each month. If you are a residential customer the amount owing will be debited from your credit card or nominated bank account on or around the 20th of each month. If you are a business customer and have opened an account with Exetel we require payment within 14 days of invoice date. Payment can be made by cheque or direct credit.
