Internet Access and Bandwidth
The Exetel NSW PoP is connected to and from Exetel users via redundant GiGE links from Telstra Wholesale and Optus Wholesale and to and from other users, in Australia and anywhere else in the world, using bandwidth from Powertel, MCI and Optus. Both the Customer Access and the Internet ingress/egress bandwidth are provisioned at levels well above the peak usage of all users at all peak times.
The Powertel and Optus network have, between them, extensive Australian Domestic and International connections with multiple diverse interconnection points with other major global networks. In terms of Internet access from Australia. The combination of Powertel, MCI and Optus gives excellent connections domestically, to/from the USA and to/from Asia/Europe.

Service Availability
The Exetel hosting services have been designed to provide low cost hosting with high availability. The servers provide all of the features required for a professional small/medium business site, with none of the ‘frills’ that can lead to performance or reliability degradation.

Additional IP Address Blocks
Acquiring Additional IP Address Blocks
As you may know all IP addresses in Australia are controlled by APNIC who enforce fairly stringent rules for the allocation of IP addresses and require ‘justification’ before they will issue them to any entity (they will almost never issue them to a private individual).
ISPs have to become members of the APNIC association and pay annual membership fees as well as IP address block fees to be able to ‘own’ IP address blocks.
Exetel can make additional IP addresses available to its users (in addition to the one static IP allocated to each Exetel ADSL account) provided that the user can ‘justify’ why the addresses should be issued to them.
IP addresses cannot be ‘owned’ by the user they are only ‘rented on an annual basis and then only while the user is actually an Exetel customer.

As part of the application process you must provide a justification for why you need them as we, in turn, have to advise APNIC as to why we issued addresses that they have allocated to Exetel to a third party.
You will be advised of the actual IP numbers by email once they have been allocated.
Exetel Provides Very Low Cost Additional IP Services
Exetel can provide additional IP addresses in blocks of 4, 8, 16 or 32. However the user must realize that two IP addresses in each block are not allocatable by them as the first address in each IP block is used to define the address of the actual block and last IP address in each block is used as the broadcast address of the block.
The annual charges (no set up fees are charged) for additional IP addresses are:
/30 Block Of 4 IP Addresses of which 2 are usable $90.00 pa
/29 Block Of 8 IP Addresses of which 6 are usable $180.00 pa
/28 Block Of 16 IP Addresses of which 14 are usable $360.00 pa
/27 Block Of 32 IP Addresses of which 30 are usable $480.00 pa
Payment For Hosting Services
The set up fee (if applicable) and the first twelve months hosting cost will be debited to your nominated bank account or credit card once we have set up your account and sent you the details of how to up load your web pages. The start date for your 12 month hosting period will be deemed to be from the 1st day of the month following the month in which we set up your account.
