Exetel VOIP Services (22/10/07)

Provision of VoIP Services From Exetel

Exetel provides VoIP services by connecting customers via their ADSL service to its own VoIP switches and then delivering national calls over IP bandwidth from SPT and international calls and calls to mobiles over Toll Quality lines from Verizon.

All management of a customer’s VoIP service is done by Exetel personnel and all billing of a VoIP customer’s calls is done by Exetel in house systems.

Exetel provides two types of VoIP service implementations depending on whether the customer is confident about setting up a VoIP modem or ATA or whether they don’t want to invest in VoIP equipment just yet.

Payment of VoIP

Payment for VoIP services is due on the 16th of each calendar month.

Exetel VOIP (Using No Special VoIP Equipment)

Exetel have a VoIP Service that allows a cautious user to try out the quality of the Exetel VoIP service without buying any VoIP equipment – you just use your current telephone handset and line exactly as it is.

This service is equivalent to a calling card service where you have to dial an access number and then key in a pin number to make a long distance call or a call to a mobile. This also incurs a local call connection charge from your current telephone call provider but that charge is likely to be less than the ‘call connection charge’ or ‘flag fall’ that your current call provider charges you for each long distance call you make.

If you are using an ADSL service that doesn’t include the rental of the telephone line you can also use, or change to using, the Telstra 'Home Line Budget' line at $19.90 per month rather than Telstra’s other, more expensive, line rental plans.

For a comparison of Telstra’s HomeLine Budget plan charges versus the other Telstra line rental plans visit Telstra’s web site here:

Exetel Monthly VOIP Plans (Requiring VoIP Equipment)

Exetel provides two VoIP plans which are billed one month in arrears. Exetel doesn’t, currently, offer a pre-paid VoIP service.

A “DID” (Direct In Dial) number is a valid PSTN dial number that is in the same format as a standard wire line number and allows calls from standard telephones to be made to your VoIP number.

Current numbers prefixes/ranges are;

02 6nnn nnnn
02 8nnn nnnn
03 8nnn nnnn
07 3nnn nnnn
08 6nnn nnnn
08 7nnn nnnn

If you use the Exetel ADSL2 service the telephone line required for ADSL2 is included in the ADSL2 monthly access charge – the line rental component of this charge is $30.00.

If you are using an ADSL service that doesn’t include the rental of the telephone line you can also use, or change to using, the Telstra 'Home Line Budget' line at $19.90 per month rather than Telstra’s other, more expensive, line rental plans.
