Service qualification

The Exetel Home Wireless Home Broadband service is available in selected homes in selected areas.

Minimum costs

Month-to-month contract

First month: $99 modem fee including shipping plus pro-rata of the first month data allowance and charge of $39.99.
Subsequent months: Monthly charge of $39.99

12-month contract

First month: $0.00 modem fee including shipping plus pro-rata of the first month data allowance and charge of $39.99.
Subsequent months: Monthly charge of $39.99

Included data

Your home wireless broadband service comes with a 250GB plan (pro-rated in the first month). Data usage is counted in kilobytes and includes uploads and downloads. Excess data is automatically charged at $10 for an additional 10GB (pro-rated in the first month) up to a maximum of 5 top ups per month (pro-rated in the first month). If data usage exceeds 250GB (pro-rated in the first month) your service will be slowed to 256Kbps.

Activating your service

Once you receive your Exetel Home Wireless Broadband modem and SIM card, you will need to log-in to My Exetel to activate your service. Alternatively, we will activate your service 7 days after your modem and SIM have been dispatched and your monthly access charge will commence.


This service is only available in selected areas on the Optus 4G Plus network with the modem supplied by Exetel at the address specified in your application. There may also be technical or commercial reasons that affect your ability to access the service at your address. Check your service availability here. We recommend that you position your modem close to a window to maximise signal strength. There are many places you can buy external antennas to improve signal strength (Exetel does not sell these).

About speed

Whilst the Exetel Home Wireless Broadband service uses the Optus 4G Plus network, it is designed to be used in the home and its data speeds are different to mobile and mobile broadband speeds on the Optus 4G Plus network. In metropolitan areas where there is 2300 MHz coverage at your nominated address, download and upload speeds of up to 12/1 Mbps are available. If 2300 MHz coverage is not available at your nominated address, download and upload speeds of up to 5/1 Mbps are available.

Your actual speed will depend on a number of factors including congestion, location, local conditions, hardware, software and general internet traffic.

The SIM Card supplied with the modem must not be removed and will not work in any other device.


The modem supplied with this home wireless broadband service is Huawei B525s-65a LTE CPE. The modem is a wireless gateway that integrates LTE and high-speed Ethernet uplink access and supports diverse data access and voice services. Learn more here.

Cancelling your plan

You can cancel your home wireless broadband service with 28 days’ notice, however if you are within your 12-month contract period and choose to cancel your service, then cancellation fees will apply as per the following table:

Payment verification

A payment verification charge of $1 will be debited to your account at the time of sale. This will be credited back to you on your first invoice. You can also organise to pay by Direct Debit to avoid the 1% Credit Card surcharge.

Billing & payments

When you place your order for a mobile service with Exetel, a payment verification charge of $1 will be debited from your credit card or bank account. This will be credited back to you on your first monthly bill, or as soon as possible if your service cannot be activated.

With your wireless modem from Exetel we will email you your bill for the modem and shipping costs when we dispatch it to you. We will also debit your account at the same time.

Once your service is active, we will email your first invoice and after 10 business days of the invoice date, we will debit your credit card or bank account for:

  • Any service activation charges due
  • Pro-rata first month plan fee for your service based on the date activated to the end of the billing cycle
  • If your service is activated after the 14th of the month you will be billed the following months recurring plan fee

After this, your monthly bill will be emailed to you on the 14th of each month in pdf format to the nominated email account provided during the ordering process.

Your ongoing monthly bill will include charges for both the current month recurring plan fee and any prior-month excess usage or other billable activity.

Your nominated bank account or credit card will be debited after 10 business days of your receiving your monthly invoice.

Credit check

When you order a service, Exetel may give information about you to a credit reporting agency to obtain a consumer credit report about you and/or allow the credit reporting agency to create or maintain a credit information file containing information about you. This information may include the details given by you to Exetel when ordering your service.
