What Melbourne’s saying about Exetel

Everything you need to know

Find the answers to frequently asked questions about internet plans in Melbourne.

Melbourne is known for its unpredictable weather (sunny one hour, thunder storming and heat wave the next), can FTTP keep the connection stable during extreme weather?

Luckily, FTTP uses fibre-optics to ensure they're resistant to weather and temperature fluctuations. Much more stable than ye olde copper wires, if you ask us. Aside from fancy words like fibre optics, fibre cables transmit data using light pulses, eliminating the risk of electromagnetic interference that can affect copper cables. This, in turn, makes the connection more stable during storms – great news for Melbournians.

I live in a multi-dwelling unit in Melbourne. Is my location eligible?

Absolutely! For more information about the process and to determine your building's eligibility, please visit the nbn website. Once everything is approved and any necessary construction on your property is finished, you can proceed to order your Exetel One plan, which includes the standard installation of full fibre service inside your premises.

After placing your order, be sure to download the Exetel app to keep track of your order's status. We will coordinate your FTTP upgrade and schedule an appointment with an nbn technician to ensure a smooth and low-impact installation. Typically, appointments are set within 7 to 14 days after your order is placed. You'll receive your appointment date along with reminders, and you can easily reschedule through the app if needed.

The nbn technician will evaluate the exterior of your property to determine if additional infrastructure is required.* If there are any extra costs, you will be informed and responsible for payment before proceeding. Once the setup is completed, we'll notify you when your fibre service is active and ready for use. You will only incur charges once your FTTP service is fully operational.

*Free standard fibre upgrade only. See T&Cs for more information.

Is my Melbourne home eligible for Exetel’s One Plan?

It could be! Just head over to the ‘address checker’ on our website to find out whether your Melbourne address is eligible for our excellent Exetel One Plan. If you already have an FTTP, HFC connection, or are eligible for a fibre upgrade, you’re all set to sign up for our One Plan.

What is the typical evening speed in Melbourne for the One Plan?

Exetel’s TES sits at 500/40Mbps.

Unclear what a TES is? It’s basically how fast we go when everyone’s online between 7 pm and 11 pm. Although this number can vary if your tech is outdated, there’s more demand on the network than usual, the performance of your wireless network isn’t great, or your physical line is in poor condition.

Why is Exetel the ideal nbn provider for Melbourne residential users?

It's straightforward and efficient, making it an outstanding offer for a single price. For just $80, you receive 500 Mbps (TES: 500/40Mbps)—what an incredible value! While some competitors might have similar speeds at lower prices, those are often just temporary promotions that last only 3 to 6 months. After that, you’re hit with the real pricing. You know that frustrating moment when your “$65 great deal” suddenly jumps up by $30 to $95 after half a year? We call that the “Lazy Tax,” and many Australians find themselves paying it without even realising. We designed Exetel’s One Plan to break this cycle. There are no promotional traps, no expiration dates, and no fine print in tiny letters. Just consistent pricing for the long haul.

On top of that, we provide several features like Warp Speed to upgrade your internet speed when needed, Hibernate to lower it during quieter times, and Exray, an internet health check. All these functionalities are easily accessible via our fantastic new Exetel app. But don’t just take our word for it; check out what other Melbournians are saying about the One Plan!
