Sydney’s take on Exetel

Everything you need to know

Find the answers to frequently asked questions about internet plans in Sydney.

Can I get the nbn fibre upgrade in my Sydney multi-dwelling apartment?

Absolutely. Visit the nbn website for details on the process and to check your building’s eligibility. When that’s all cleared, and any construction on the premises is done, you can go ahead and order your swish Exetel One plan, which will include standard full fibre service installation inside your premises.

Once ordered, download the Exetel app to track your order’s progress. We’ll arrange your FTTP standard upgrade*, and an appointment with an nbn technician for a smooth, low-impact setup. Appointments are typically scheduled within 7–14 days of ordering. You'll receive your appointment date along with reminders, and you can reschedule anytime through the app. The nbn technician will inspect your property's exterior to assess any need for additional infrastructure. If extra costs apply, you’ll be notified and responsible for payment to proceed. Once setup is complete, we’ll notify you as soon as your fibre service is active and ready to go. You’ll be charged only once your FTTP service is active.

*Free standard fibre upgrade only. See T&Cs for more information.

Is my Sydney address eligible for the Exetel One plan?

It may be! Just head on over to our ‘address checker’ on this page or our nbn plan page and plug in your address to see if it's eligible. If you’re rocking with an FTTP, HFC connection or are eligible for a fibre upgrade, you’re sweet to sign up for the excellent Exetel One Plan.

What is Typical evening speed of Exetel nbn plan in Sydney?

Glad you asked. Exetel’s TES sits at 500/40Mbps.

But what is TES? TES, or typical evening speed, is the average internet speed during peak hours, usually 7pm to 11pm. However, this is basically just an estimate, and the TES actually depends on a few factors including your access to new tech, the total demand on the network, local internet traffic, performance of the wireless network and your physical line condition.

FTTP vs 5G - which one is better for Sydney home internet users?

FTTP. Why? It's consistent and provides a balanced, stable online experience, even during peak times. 5G, on the other hand, at its max, and even if you’re situated close to a 5G tower, still doesn't reach speeds as fast as FTTP and is susceptible to interference from physical and environmental obstacles.

Why should I choose Exetel as my nbn provider in Sydney?

It's simple and streamlined, making it an exceptional deal for a single price. For just $80, you get 500 Mbps (TES: 500/40Mbps) —what a steal! And while some of our competitors may offer similar speeds at lower prices, these are generally just promotional offers lasting 3 to 6 months. After that period, the actual prices are revealed and applied. You know that feeling when your “$65 great deal” suddenly increases by $30 to $95 after six months? We call that the “Lazy Tax,” and many Aussies are paying it without even realising. We created Exetel’s One plan to put an end to this cycle. There are no promo traps, no expiry dates, and no fine print in tiny font. Just consistent pricing for the long term.

Additionally, we offer a range of features, including Warp Speed to temporarily increase your internet speed, Hibernate to reduce it when you don’t need high speeds, and Exray, an internet health check. All these features are easily accessible through our fantastic new Exetel app. But don’t just take our word for it; see what other Sydneysiders are saying about the One Plan.
